Metrorail & Metromover - Miami Hotels .com

Miami's Metrorail and Metromover systems are pretty easy to use and understand. They are an affordable way to get around especially in and around Downtown Miami and Brickell as well as reaching neighborhoods like Coconut Grove and Coral Gables. As Miami's traffic woes keep growing, more and more locals and tourists alike are turning to the Metrorail and Metromover as a effective and affordable way to get around.

Metrorail

Traveling in Miami via the Metrorail couldn't be any easier, there is only one line, the Green Line, which is also its downfall. The lack of additional lines means the rail doesn't go to many places even though it is fast and effective. It runs for about 22 miles mostly north and south on an elevated track. Miami cannot have a train going underground due to the Biscayne Aquifer, the city's water supply, being only 9 to 15 feet underground at any given point.

Additional lines are being added as federal funding become available, such as the newly planned Orange Line to the western suburbs as well as lines to Miami Beach, Aventura and Homestead.

Fare for the Metrorail is $1.50 and reduce to $.75 for seniors, students and children.

Metromover

Often used to smaller confines, Miami's automated people mover gets people around Downtown and Brickell quickly and stops located approximately two blocks apart. Best thing of all, it's completely free, making it the best way to see Downtown and Brickell. The system consist of three loops: the Omni Loop, the Brickell Loop and the Downtown Loop. Both the Omni and Brickell loops run on the outer most tracks with the Omni going to the more northern parts of Downtown and Brickell going to the heart of the area's Financial District. The Downtown Loop is goes in the opposite direction of the outermost loop and it stays in the immediate Downtown area passing by the city's Historic District and all the county and federal buildings.
