Miami Beach
Miami Beach, or the Greater Miami Beach area, is very different from its popular southernmost neighborhood South Beach. You won't find world-famous nightclubs or quirky boutique hotels. Instead you'll find a more relaxed atmosphere and mimics the Miami Beach of yesterday - sans the geriatric tourists.

Don't fret. If you are in the mood to visit South Beach, the trip is just a very short taxi ride. However, the slow paced atmosphere of Greater Miami Beach is probably more to the liking of families and older tourists who don't care for those wild Miami nights and the racy attire of South Beach.

That being said, Miami Beach is anything but boring. Great beaches, MiMo (Miami Modern) architecture and historic oceanfront resorts can all be found in the area. Three golf courses are available, including two public courses, Miami Beach Golf Club and Normandy Shores Golf Course, as well a private one, La Gorce Country Club.

While they may not be as sizzling as its southern cousin South Beach, North Beach and the other nearby neighborhoods have plenty of public beaches with far less congestion.

Right on the cusp between proper South Beach and the rest of Miami Beach lays Talula, 210 23rd St., (305-672-0778), which features an excellent lunch and dinner menu and a superb Sunday brunch as a great post-South Beach night out cure. To drink and dance you don't have to go far, right across the street in an unmarked building is Miami Beach's hottest new lounge, Mokai, 235 23rd St. Celebrities and A-listers are lining up by the droves to gain access, so the chances of crossing the velvet ropes are very slim unless you stand out.

While the original resort area of the Fontainebleau is under renovation, you can still enjoy the luxury of the Fontainebleau name at the Fontainebleau Suites Miami Beach. With private beach access, enormous suites and rooftop pool, your body will the begging to relax. Only three miles from South Beach and less than four from the Shops at Bal Harbour the Miami Beach Resort & Spa is a centrally located getaway featuring a seaside pool and cozy guestrooms.
