Downtown Miami
Grittier and less polished than its neighbor across the causeway, Downtown Miami is quickly becoming the place to live, eat and play. While it may not have the any beaches nearby, Downtown is looking to be the place to experience Miami's urban way of life.

The bulk of Miami's building boom is concentrated in this area, with plenty of iconic building rising out of the ground. With the influx of new residents, Downtown has also experience an urban renaissance with shops and restaurants flooding back into buildings abandoned long ago.

The area is most notable for Bayside Marketplace, where local families and tourist alike can shop and dine by the waterfront. Downtown also plays host for many events in thanks to venues such as Bicentennial Park, Bayfront Park and the American Airlines Arena all being located along Biscayne Boulevard.

For a more cultural view on the city, historical buildings such as the Freedom Tower, the Gusman Center, the Ingraham Building and the DuPont Building, all which compromised the Downtown Miami Historic District.

Nearby dining must include the newly open haute dining experience Karu & Y, 71 NW 14th St. (305-403-7850). Located in one of Miami's grittiest neighborhoods, Karu & Y brings great dining and the ultra lounge concept to the mainland. Six different spaces mean this is more than just a restaurant, it's where Miami's elite comes to see and be seen. Prime Blue Grill, 315 Biscayne Blvd., (305-358-5900) offers exceptional grilled steak and seafood fare with an exceptional view of the city skyline.

If you are looking to stay in the area the Continental Downtown Bayside is conveniently located on Biscayne Boulevard right beside Bayfront Park. Rooms offer great views of Downtown and nearby South Beach. The Hyatt Regency Miami sits on the southern edge of neighborhood only a block away from Brickell, the city's financial center. The hotel is adjacent to the James L. Knight Center which houses the Miami Convention Center.

If you prefer to stay at some of the nicer hotels in downtown, we suggest checking out hotels in the Brickell area such as the Mandarin Oriental, the Conrad Miami, and the JW Marriott Miami. Weather allowing, you can walk on Brickell Avenue over to downtown in a matter of minutes. Otherwise the free Metro Mover can be a convenient option for transportation between the two areas.
