Coral Gables
One of Miami's original planned communities, Coral Gables is probably one of the best examples of the City Beautiful urban planning. Located southwest from the city of Miami, the Gables, as it is sometimes referred to, is littered with amazing Mediterranean architectural wonders.

The city's central business district runs along Ponce De Leon Boulevard and is where most of the dining and shopping are located. On the popular Miracle Mile, pedestrians are shaded by color storefront awnings which make for very comfortable window shopping at some of Miami's most exclusive boutiques.

On the southernmost portion of Ponce De Leon you find the Village of Merrick Park where high fashion and fine dining meet. Stores like Neiman Marcus, Nordstrom, Robert Cavalli, Betsey Johnson, Gucci and Tiffany & Co. can be found at this open-air mall and community.

Other local attractions include Venetian Pool, Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden, Matheson Hammock Park and the Actors' Playhouse at Miracle Theatre.

Local dining options include Ortanique on the Mile, 278 Miracle Mile (305-446-7710), where, if the long wait is any indication, the food is spectacular. Reservation in advance is highly recommended.

The Biltmore Hotel is as much as part of Coral Gables as any other famous landmark. Built in the 1920s this hotel features plenty of Old World charm juxtaposed to plenty of modern amenities. The Westin Colonnade - Coral Gables sits right on Miracle Mile, allowing you to easily walk to all the great nearby attractions.
